Lost Daughter Poem by Soumili Karmakar

Lost Daughter

On this day I didn't find my sunlight
Where I used to dance, forgetting my futile life.
On this day, my mother didn't call to wake me up,
Instead prayed for my eyes to be shut tight.

Dead drums and empty light
Beats me as my life goes by
I try to seek for the last lovable goodbye
I try to rise, but then is beaten by the tide.

The spring has faded and memories leap,
Of my childhood and of my parents
Where to live in those again and again
Wet my eyes.

The rain doesn't come today,
My life is left yet not my light.
My dreams are broken by heavy bricks
Where spring fades and my mother's voice passes over everything except to call me hers before I close my eyes
For a final sleep.

On this day, I stand motionless in a distant realm
Where I reach out to find my counted breaths in vain.
On this day, I don't find shelter and love
On this day, I die and fade like my mother's love,
That dried when she chose to kill me in this night.
